“The most important thing was to rediscover the team,” Montella noted in his post-match Press conference.

“We have to continue with these characteristics. I’m convinced that nothing in life comes by chance. The journey is difficult, but I know I can still be completed as a Coach.

“The team’s objective must be to maintain the attitude they showed today. That’s the biggest victory.

“We definitely had more heart and cohesion today, we worked so hard. There were probably also a few little mistakes to be evaluated, but when you take over there’s not much time.

“In the coming weeks we’ll definitely concentrate more on the attacking phase. I think it’s easier and faster to organise a team defensively as opposed to in attack.

“Attacking organisation definitely takes more time, which I don’t have at the moment.”

The Samp players protested furiously after Berisha’s foul, believing it warranted a red card, did the Coach see it that way?

“I thought it was a sending-off, but I wasn’t angry. From the bench it looked like a red.”
