The Serie B team was swept aside at the Stadio Franchi in this afternoon’s match, which allowed some – including Ribery after a three-match ban for pushing a linesman – to get playing time.

Rachid Ghezzal bagged a brace, with goals from Kevin-Prince Boateng, Pol Lirola and Marco Benassi.

“We played with good intensity in the first half and I am satisfied, even if the tempo inevitably dropped off after the break,” Montella told reporters.

“Ribery has always trained well during the ban, so he is in good shape. Ghezzal is improving physically and made a good impression off the bench last week too. He has characteristics we like and good quality.

“I still have to evaluate the system and any potential changes against Hellas Verona. We’re missing a few players, but can make up for it.”

Both Gaetano Castrovilli and Erick Pulgar are suspended for that trip to the Stadio Bentegodi.
