The object of the interview was the way Montella intends to deploy his team tactically, and the players that he needs from the transfer market to make his vision work.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, his preferred formation is going to be a 4-3-3, with three attacking players backed by three playmakers or defensive midfielders.

To make that work, his primary targets are now Real Madrid's Kovacic and Udinese's Zielinski, though the latter is very hard because of Napoli's intense competition. He also expects one central defender, and he has targeted Villareal's Mateo Musacchio.

Milan cannot move on the market until the club's sale to the Chinese conglomerate has been completed, but they are believed to be in pole for Kovacic.
