Vincenzo Montella prepares to face his former club and admits both he and Catania have a score to settle against Roma.

The Coach was with the Giallorossi from 1999 to 2011 as player, youth team tactician and then in charge of the main squad. Despite taking them to sixth place and the Coppa Italia semi-final, he was replaced by Luis Enrique.

“There is no desire for revenge. If we are talking about a hunger to win, then that is certainly here in spades,” L’Aeroplanino told the Corriere dello Sport. “It is part of me. I am even competitive in my own home!”

The same cannot be said of Catania, who have held a grudge against Roma ever since complaining they were “shown no respect” in a 7-0 defeat at the Olimpico in 2006.

“I was on the scoresheet in that game, but I can assure you that I didn’t ask myself too many questions. I am very happy in Catania and found the ideal environment to work in.”

There have been problems since Montella took over, though, mainly in leaving Maxi Lopez on the bench. The Argentine striker had a deal with Milan, but could now be heading to the Premier League.

“I know there are negotiations in progress, but nothing more. You’d have to ask the club about his future.”
