Fiorentina begin their season with the Coppa Italia tie against “very dangerous” Monza tomorrow and Vincenzo Montella is “excited.”

The Third Round of the tournament is where the Serie A clubs come in and the Viola will host Cristian Brocchi’s Monza, a Serie C club run by former Milan chiefs Silvio Berlusconi and Adriano Galliani.

“We’re excited at the first official home game of the season and we really want to make a good impression,” said Montella in his Press conference.

“We are facing a very dangerous opponent, because Monza scored four goals away to Benevento in the last round and have players worthy of Serie A, are feeling confident and in good shape physically.

“I know Brocchi and there is great mutual respect. He was very generous to me when I replaced him at Milan and there was an exchange of opinions, but that’s natural when two Coaches have different ideas. His teams have a precise identity and philosophy of football, as do mine.

“This is why we need the utmost concentration, as we saw in our friendly against Galatasaray. We’ll also have more or less the same starting XI.”

It is the first competitive match of the campaign after Fiorentina’s hastily-arranged US pre-season tour, which saw them step in for Roma in the International Champions Cup.

“We did not underestimate anything about the schedule and even trained on public holidays. It is wonderful to hear fans have been queueing up for tickets, as President Rocco Commisso has brought in so much enthusiasm and the supporters are showing they believe in this new era.

“Now it’s up to us to keep that enthusiasm going with performances and results.”
