“One day, I would like to [work in England],” Montella told the London Standard.

“I know very well that it is a journey but I’m learning English and after that, who knows? I’m doing better with English.

“I wouldn’t say I was at a very high level but my tutor says I could speak it and I try to have a lesson most weeks.

“So I hope so, because I like English football very much. I’m inspired by the work of coaches like Carlo Ancelotti and Roberto Mancini, who did very well indeed at Chelsea and Manchester City respectively.

“They brought an Italian type of mentality, which is not to be underestimated, to two important clubs, two important cities. At Manchester City, they had not won a major trophy for years but Mancini managed to do so.

“Both showed they were great managers during their time in England and what they did was a great advert for Italian coaches. In my opinion, the coaching education in Italy is the best, certainly at a tactical level.

“My time at Fulham was a wonderful experience and I would have liked to have stayed in England for longer but perhaps at that stage of my career I wasn’t in a position to handle such a quick, physical game.”
