Milan Coach Vincenzo Montella admits he misses the Champions League, and “my affection for Sampdoria is eternal”.

The Rossoneri have been out of European competition for the last three seasons in a row, and the tactician was asked if he misses the Champions League.

“I miss the Europa League too!” Montella laughed in his pre-match Press conference.

“I’m happy to be here, we have the highest aspirations, but you have to look at reality. The last Champions League match I saw was Milan 2-0 Barcelona. I want to coach this club in the Champions League.”

Tomorrow sees Montella return to Sampdoria, and he’s expected to get a hostile reception after leaving for San Siro after just six months on the Blucerchiati bench.

“I’m a professional, I’ve had many years in football and I’ve seen a lot. I’d be disappointed if the reception is bad, but it’s something I can take.

“My affection for Samp is eternal.”

Having lost at home to Udinese last weekend, Montella was asked what challenges Samp will pose.

“Compared to Udinese, I think that Samp are able to attack more, it’ll be slightly different from the last game.

“They’ve been built with logic following the ideas of the Coach [Marco Giampaolo], and you can see that on the pitch.

“Tomorrow we have everything to prove. We need a good, courageous approach. We still need a perfect game to prove who we are.”
