The Viola prepare to fly out for their South American summer tour after the training camp at Moena.
“At the moment there are four or five teams stronger than we are, but it’s up to us to give our best so that we can compete with them,” said the Coach in his Press conference.
They finished fourth last season despite numerous injury problems ruling out Mario Gomez and Giuseppe Rossi.
Pepito has not been taking part in friendly games so far, but Montella explained there is a reason.
“Rossi is continuing a personalised recovery programme and I want him to be ready for the end of August, not before then. He’ll have space to play in South America.
“I am glad David Pizarro opted to stay and work with us this season too. Josh Brillante is ready physically and I consider him to be a nice surprise, but Octavio is a bit behind in fitness terms.”
The saga of the summer for Fiorentina will be Juan Guillermo Cuadrado, who is at the centre of a bidding war between Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
He’s still away on post-World Cup vacation, but has Montella spoken to him?
“I can’t say…”
