Vincenzo Montella hails an “epic win” over Bologna, but dismisses comparisons to Milan sides of the past.

The Rossoneri were down to nine-men during last night’s match, with Andrea Poli also suffering with a knee injury.

However, Mario Pasalic hit a late winner to end a four-game losing streak in style.

“It was an epic win, which can only come from the soul and spirit of the team,” Montella told Milan TV.

However, Mario Pasalic hit a late winner to end a four-game losing streak in style.

“It was an epic win, which can only come from the soul and spirit of the team,” Montella told Milan TV.

“We were coming off three [Serie A] defeats, some of them undeserved, and we were a bit out of sorts but the team overcame all the difficulties.

“This can help us have some more certainty for the rest of the season.

“It’s not that it reminded me of any of the wins of the Milan sides of the past, my only thought is how we got this win and the way the lads earned it.

“We’re building something for the future, but also for the present because we want to get into Europe. We need to remain optimistic.

“As a Coach I’m very proud, I have to thank the lads for the emotions they gave me. These kind of wins aren’t like the others.

“Now in the second half of the season we want to take a few more points [than in the first half]. We know it won’t be easy, because we started badly, but there are still a lot of games to play.

“Our aim is to improve day-by-day.”
