Mondonico recently admitted his cancer had returned, but the 70-year-old has since given reassurances about his condition, which he claims is “better than before”.
“They were five or six days that were groggy for me, but today I can say I feel better than before,” he told Domenica Sportiva.

“The operation was successful and the tumour was removed. I’m not the type of person to just give up.”
Mondonico is a well-loved figure in Italian football, sitting on the benches of Cremonese, Como, Atalanta, Torino, Napoli, Cosenza, Fiorentina, Albinoleffe and Novara.
He reached the Coppa Italia final with Atalanta and famously finished third in Serie A at the helm of Torino during the 1991-92 season.
