Monaco are out of the Champions League play-offs, which removes a potential obstacle between Manchester United and Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

The Bianconeri have reportedly agreed a transfer fee with Manchester United worth €20m plus bonuses, a tidy sum considering his contract only runs to June 2023 and he was picked up as a free agent from PSG in 2019.

However, the move depended on Manchester United agreeing personal terms with Rabiot’s mother and agent Veronique.

According to talkSPORT, would’ve been a problem if Monaco qualified for the Champions League, because Rabiot would be inclined to lean towards them instead.

Monaco had been leading in Eindhoven this evening until a late PSV equaliser, and it ended 3-2 for the Dutch side in extra time, 4-3 on aggregate.

Manchester United have only qualified for the Europa League, which is also fuelling Cristiano Ronaldo’s desire to leave Old Trafford this summer.

As for Juve, they need to sell Rabiot before they can secure Leandro Paredes from Paris Saint-Germain, and Monaco probably wouldn’t have been able to match that €20m asking price.
