Former Juventus director Luciano Moggi insists he would’ve reacted very differently after the controversial 2-2 draw with Salernitana. ‘I’d have appealed to get the game replayed.’

The Bianconeri fought back from 2-0 down in Turin to draw 2-2, then scored what would’ve been the winner deep into stoppages with Arkadiusz Milik.

That goal was disallowed using VAR for Leonardo Bonucci’s offside position, but it was later confirmed by the Lega Serie A that the cameras at their disposal did not cover Antonio Candreva, who was standing near the corner flag and keeping everyone onside.

The goal was therefore valid and Juventus would’ve gone 3-2 up, also avoiding the red cards for Juan Cuadrado and Salernitana’s Federico Fazio in the melee that followed.

“I certainly would’ve lodged an appeal to get the game replayed if I was still a director at Juventus,” Moggi told Radio Kiss Kiss.

“It is unthinkable that a goal can be disallowed despite missing the footage that was necessary to evaluate the position.

“After that, incredibly neither Luca Banti not Matteo Marcenaro were suspended.”

Juventus were not in a position to have the game replayed, because the rules do not consider anything done by VAR to constitute a technical error in the same way as for example a referee accidentally booking the same player twice and not sending him off.

Moggi was barred from all sporting roles after featuring heavily in the Calciopoli scandal and subsequent trials, but he still works regularly as a pundit in some media circles.
