Marca reports Real Madrid President Florentino Perez is set to offer Inter target Luka Modric a new contract.

The 32-year-old returns to pre-season training with the European champions at Valdebebas today, where it is expected he will hold showdown talks with the Bernabeu chief.

Speculation over Modric’s future has been rife over the last couple of weeks, with the Croatia captain heavily linked with a transfer to San Siro.

Perez initially stated the playmaker would not leave the Spanish capital for anything less than €750m, but rumours have persisted that Modric is keen on a move to Serie A.

Inter officials are said to have been in contact with the player’s agents throughout, while the Nerazzurri’s current Croatian contingent of Marcelo Brozovic, Ivan Perisic and Sime Vrsaljko reportedly told the club that their international teammate wants to join.

And it is thought the crucial talks with Perez will happen later today – possibly tomorrow – with the President ready to offer Modric a lucrative new contract.

Inter are said to be prepared to hand the former Tottenham Hotspur player a four-year deal on wages of €10m-a-season – far higher than his current annual earnings of €6.5m with Real.

However, Marca claims Perez will make Modric a counter-offer as he looks to avoid losing another key player to Serie A, with Cristiano Ronaldo having departed for Juventus earlier this summer.
