The most credible source yet has confirmed that Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne has agreed personal terms with Toronto FC, moving to MLS in June as a free agent.

The reports have been swirling around over the last few days, from Sky Sport Italia to SportMediaset and Sportitalia.

Now Michael Singh, who writes for the official Major League Soccer website, has announced his sources confirm Insigne agreed terms with Toronto FC.

It will be a free transfer when his current contract with Napoli expires in June 2022, at which point the left-sided attacking winger will be 31 years old.

Former Insigne agent: ‘Toronto FC and MLS just exhibition football’

Toronto are said to be pushing for a January switch by paying Napoli a transfer fee, but it remains to be seen if either the club or Insigne will accept.

His rapport with Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has been breaking down over several years now, with the club offering him a much reduced salary package in order to extend his contract.

The sensation has been for some time that De Laurentiis did not want to keep Insigne at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, so was proposing a pay cut to push the hometown hero out.

Insigne can now follow in the footsteps of Sebastian Giovinco by joining Toronto FC.

  1. Next on the list for TFC….Buffon may want to experience North America….what better way than with a another italian! Being it on

  2. Local news outlet in Toronto CP24 now broadcasting MLSE ( Toronto FC owners) are in ” advanced” talks!
Will have to get back on my seasons tickets as well! Hope this is true.

  3. MLS isn’t a real league. And glad to have this Insigne drama over with. He will never be able to show his face in Naples again.

  4. Boo Hoo.

God forbid if a man wants to feed his family and doesn’t want to put up with nonsense. He won’t get that here. Little pressure with a team coming off a bad year in a market where the calcio team is the #2 team in the summer after the baseball team. Ex-Roma and Verona, Michael Bradley at TFC still.

Spoke to my uncle in Italia. Seems like TFC are also making a bid for Gallo Belotti.

  5. Leave it to DeLauentis to screw with quality Italian players.

MLS is a third tier league, at best.

De Lauentis might have a shrewd mind for investment but he still remains an ignorant fool.

  6. Not sure why AdL is the villain here other than he is an easy target, he should give a player whatever he wants just because he threatens to leave? easy to do when its not your money.
He is competing against foreign investment funds in a region with limited resources, every contract matters.
