Roma forward Henrikh Mkhitaryan said he made ‘the right decision to stay’ at the Giallorossi and said him and coach Jose Mourinho want the same thing. ‘We want to win something with La Lupa’.

The 32-year-old said he never doubted his decision to extend with Roma, but admitted he had different offers in ‘Italy and abroad’.

“I had no doubts,” Mkhitaryan told Il Corriere dello Sport. “But I wanted to have a fresh head to make the best decision.

“I had other offers, in Italy and abroad, but the right decision was to stay.”

Mkhitaryan was linked with a move away when Jose Mourinho took over at the Olimpico, but the Armenian stressed their issues at Manchester United is in the past and said he looks ahead with the Portuguese coach.

“What happened in Manchester stays there,” he continued. “We spoke as mature people, we both want to go down the same path, we both want to win something with Roma, the only thing that matters this year.”

And the former Arsenal and Manchester United forward warned their rivals in the Italian top flight that Roma are prepared to fight for the title.

“I have never played just to have fun. Without the trophies at the end of your career, you have nothing left,” Mkhitaryan continued.

“Those who aim to win the Scudetto this year, will have to deal with Roma. My teammates and I want to win to remain in the history of the club.”
