Henrikh Mkhitaryan bagged two goals as Inter swept RB Salzburg aside 4-0 in a friendly, with Francesco Acerbi also on target.

The Nerazzurri are in Malta for their training camp in the break for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, hoping to get the team in good shape ahead of the return of Serie A on January 4 with a Scudetto showdown against Napoli.

They already beat local side Gzira United 6-1 on Monday and were back in action this evening with Austrians RB Salzburg.

Mkhitaryan took centre-stage and opened the scoring with a volley at the back post on Federico Dimarco’s cross from the left.

Francesco Acerbi doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time by meeting a Hakan Calhanoglu assist with his head, although he was probably offside.

Mkhitaryan had a goal disallowed and nodded just wide from a very promising position, while Samir Handanovic made a couple of important saves to maintain the clean sheet.

Mkhitaryan completed a give and go with Raoul Bellanova, although Bernardo may well have got the final touch.

Valentin Carboni sealed it in stoppages after Robin Gosens kept the ball in play at the by-line.

Inter 4-0 RB Salzburg

Mkhitaryan 20, 72, Acerbi 42, Carboni 91
