Henrikh Mkhitaryan has reportedly turned down the final Roma contract extension offer and will instead join Inter as a free agent.

The Giallorossi had improved their proposal yesterday, bringing it to circa €4.2m per season including various add-ons and bonuses that would practically match the one on offer from Inter.

However, they added there was an ultimatum of 24 hours to make a decision and the warning there would be no further bids.

Now Sky Sport Italia, Sportitalia, Gazzetta dello Sport, Il Tempo and more all have exactly the same story – Mkhitaryan’s entourage informed Roma he would not be extending his contract at the Stadio Olimpico.

It now seems certain that he will begin a new chapter of his career at Inter, which were able to offer him Champions League football, whereas Roma are only in the Europa League.

The 33-year-old Armenia international joined Roma initially on loan from Arsenal in 2019 and then made it permanent free of charge.

He scored five goals and provided nine assists in 44 competitive games this season, which saw the Giallorossi win the Conference League.

  1. hugely disappointed in him, he could have stayed and finish off his career in Roma, where they love him, he chose to be a bench warmer in inter now!!

  2. Predictable. He wants to compete for trophies and play with better players around him.

    CL > Europa

  3. Good old Inter trying wedge away everyone they can on a free transfer . Hope all the other clubs take notice and start doing it to them.

  4. I am surprised Marotta gave the green light. This guy has never been the same since he left Dortmund. But in the end it will not make any difference, as Juventus are being masterfully guided by PhD Max, Agnelli, a chain smoker, the return of Flimsey and older players on the way.

  5. Ungrateful loser. Roma ressurected his career.

Considering inters economy and needing to sell players, Roma will likely be more competitive than inter next season as well.

Inter will be 3rd pot in the CL and likely be annihilated.

  6. LORD ALLEGRI PATRON SAINT OF SLOW BALL, still I believe Allegri will dominate again in coming years. I’d believe in Inter, only if we don’t sell any important player + we sign Dybala and Lukaku.

  7. Blame Mou for that . He abused him at Manchester Untied and even in Roma during first two months .
I am glad for Miki …particular Iafter hearing Lingrad related rumors . Run Miki , run !!!

  8. Azzkikr you need change your name to Azzburned… that will be a good match with how your comments express you!

  9. yea, good choice miki. better at inter, champions league football. and it was better than roma who overhyped themself after winning INTERTOTO CUP!? beating the likes of zhorya and cheating when meet leicester

  10. I don’t think he’s a suitable Brozo backup. But will be better than the current bench players like Vidal who will leave and Vecino. Inter will probably sign another young midfielder.

  11. Apparently he is going to be on the bench for Inter. Hard to understand for both sides. Why he goes to Inter while he would play at Roma? why Inter want him on the bench instead of having a few young talents?

  12. @InterFan75, it seems this makes it less likely Dybala is signed doesn’t it? Correa, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan and Dybala all play similar positions, with maybe Dybala being able to play on the flanks more than the others, but still. Given the concurrent operation to try to bring Lukaku back, and the ongoing financial issues at Inter, it just doesn’t seem like all of these players will arrive.

  13. Totally agree with many of you, he may win trophies but he will not earn them by sitting on the bench. His star would have been much brighter in Rome than it will ever be in Milan. So disappointing.
