Henrikh Mkhitaryan saw signs of ‘maturity’ from Roma in their Conference League win away to Vitesse. ‘It was not easy to come here and win the game.’

Jose Mourinho had complained about the state of the pitch yesterday and he wasn’t wrong, as the ball visibly bobbled around and players slipped at crucial moments.

Sergio Oliveira scored the only goal after a corner was not cleared effectively, but was then sent off for a second yellow card.

“It wasn’t easy to adapt, nor to come here and win the game, so fortunately we scored in the first half,” Mkhitaryan told Sky Sport Italia.

“We defended well in the second half, but it was not easy. I think the team is maturing. We can’t play the same way in every match, the coach takes different approaches.”

The Armenian was asked if it was easier for Roma to win the Conference League or fight to recapture fourth place in Serie A.

“We have to take it one game at a time, be ready for every challenge and then see where we are.”
