Henrikh Mkhitaryan said the 2-0 win over Empoli was ‘an almost perfect game’ and stressed it was ‘important’ for Roma to respond after the defeat to Lazio.

The attacking midfielder was decisive against Empoli, contributing an assist and a goal in the 2-0 win over Empoli.

The Armenian made his second assist of the season, setting up Lorenzo Pellegrini in the first half, before scoring his second in seven Serie A games after the break.

The 32-year-old and Pellegrini are getting along well on the pitch and three of Mkhitaryan’s last five assists in the League have been for the captain.

Mkhitaryan is convinced Roma can push for success this season and aim high in all competitions.

“The reaction after the derby was very important,” he told Il Corriere dello Sport. “Especially ahead of the break.

“We wanted to win and be as close as possible to the top, and we had an almost perfect game.”

Roma sit fourth with 15 points after seven league games, six points behind Napoli at the top of the standings.

The former Manchester United and Arsenal forward added on Twitter: “The most important thing is to win and keep it up!”
