There are mixed reports in Italy on the progress for Napoli negotiations with Villarreal for Pervis Estupiñan.

Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio insists the talks are progressing in a bid to get a deal done for the left-back.

He claims the two clubs are in constant contact to work out both the fee for the Ecuador international and the formula of payment.

However, Calciomercato.it insist talks have hit a brick wall, because Villarreal informed Napoli it is now too late to reach an agreement.

Coach Unai Emery seemingly asked the club to keep hold of Estupiñan, as he would not have time to find a suitable replacement.

The same goes for West Ham United, who had also made an approach for the 23-year-old this summer.

He only joined Villarreal from Watford a year ago for €16.4m and impressed for Ecuador in the Copa America, even scoring a goal against Peru.
