Inter and Brazil centre-back Joao Miranda made a bold claim about his status. “I consider myself the best defender in Serie A.”

The 33-year-old has been at San Siro since 2015, having previously played for Sao Paulo, Sochaux and Atletico Madrid.

“In terms of experience, but not only that, I consider myself to be the best defender in Serie A,” Miranda told Drive Inter on the club’s own television channel.

“I think that I am a complete package as a defender, with both technique and pace. Off the field I am very calm and always think before acting. I take that attitude on to the pitch, too.

“I speak to Luciano Spalletti all the time, during training and when we do video research. I like him as a Coach, as he always wants to win, just like me.

“The best game I’ve had with Inter is the 3-2 victory over Milan. It was a wonderful match and winning a derby is always the best feeling.

“I love Italian food, especially lasagne. I have to say, the food in Italy is the best in the world. Unfortunately, I am a useless cook, I can just make a boiled egg and pasta in a packet.”

Miranda is expected to start for Brazil at the 2018 World Cup in Russia and he knows the responsibility on their shoulders.

“I’ll try to play as if it was my last tournament. In Brazil, the World Cup only matters if we win. If we don’t become champions, it’ll count for nothing, but we do have the quality to become champions.”
