Former Milan director Massimiliano Mirabelli maintains the Rossoneri ‘will regret’ losing Hakan Calhanoglu to Inter, and risk Franck Kessie leaving for free too. ‘They already lost €150m.’

Mirabelli was in charge when Calhanoglu was signed from Bayer Leverkusen for €23m plus bonuses in 2017.

He also negotiated the Gianluigi Donnarumma contract that same summer, which expires on June 30, allowing him to join PSG as a free agent.

“I am disappointed that Milan are losing Calhanoglu for free, but I am happy he is going to Inter, because he’s an important player and a lovely guy,” Mirabelli told Tuttosport.

“It’s a great deal for the Nerazzurri, they will really enjoy themselves, but the Rossoneri will regret him.”

There is the warning that Kessie could soon walk away if he doesn’t agree a new contract, so what is making the situation so difficult at Milan?

“I had to resolve many contractual problems at Milan, the problem is one of strategy,” insisted Mirabelli.

“With Donnarumma and Calhanoglu, the club has lost €150m. If they’re happy with that… The next problem will be Kessie, these important renewals need to be sorted out earlier.”

Ivory Coast international Kessie is under contract only until June 2022, as he also arrived in 2017, although that was a loan with obligation to buy in 2019.

Kessie cost €32m to sign from Atalanta and has swiftly become the key cog in their midfield, making 50 competitive appearances this season.

He contributed 14 goals and six assists.
