The FIGC has confirmed that a minute’s silence will be held at all Italian grounds this weekend to remember Sassuolo owner Giorgio Squinzi.
Squinzi died on Wednesday at the age of 76 and will go down as an iconic figure in Italian football, the Mapei supremo having taken Sassuolo from the fourth tier into Serie A.
The Neroverdi have also been praised for their innovative approach, making the UEFA-approved Mapei Stadium their home in 2013 and bringing through young players.

“All of Italian football joins the family’s condolences for the death of Giorgio Squinzi,” said FIGC President Gabriele Gravina.
“The many sincere messages inspired by his memory bear withess to how the Sassuolo patron was appreciated and respected for his human qualities even more than his professional capacity.
“The country has lost a capable and enlightened industrialist, while our world mourns a big fan, as well as a serious and generous leader.
“At this time of pain, I’d like to remember him through all the serious work he carried out for Italian football, starting from the investment in the stadium that belonged to him, up until the creation of Sassuolo’s new training complex.
“They’re a model club for us, always available to collaborate with the FIGC over the organisation of international events, where three recognisable elements are perfectly condensed throughout Squinzi’s work: attention to football, efficiency and vision of the future.”
