“His return to Serie A is very good for Italian football,” Milito told Sky Sport Italia.

“I’d have loved to see him return to Inter, but I love Mou and I hope he does well everywhere he goes. I hope he doesn’t do well against Inter and Genoa, but I wish him good luck.

“He is close to every footballer and that’s a good thing. He understands every moment and he understands his players, this is really important," he continued.

“He knows how to take the best out of every footballer, he is one of the best coaches in the world.

“It was incredible news, I didn’t expect him to return to Italy, but he likes Serie A.”

Would he like to work with Mourinho one day?

“I really respect Mourinho but I don’t know. We’ve never spoken about that.”

Inter won the first Serie A title in 11 years last week. Milito and Mourinho were part of the last Inter side to win the Scudetto in 2009-10.

“I celebrated and I am happy for the club and for the fans,” the former striker said.

“A club like Inter must always fight for this kind of target. This title means the end of Juventus’ dominion, they deserve it.”

Was Lukaku the most crucial player for Inter’s title?

“When you achieve such targets, the group is the most important thing. Lukaku was very important, but I think the group made the difference, like in 2010.

“I am really happy for Lautaro Martinez too, we’ve known each other for a long time. His improvements are making me so happy, he’s done a lot, and he has so much room for improvement.

“I sent a message to Javier Zanetti after the win against Crotone. He was so happy, but he was also waiting for Atalanta’s game.”
