It ended in a goalless stalemate and the match was eventually decided on penalties, when Torino prevailed to the second round.

“There were many difficulties,” Milinkovic-Savic told Torino Channel. “But we remained humble and calm until the end, and we brought home the win, even if we didn’t play well.

“I don’t want to say anything [about my own performance], I can only say that in my opinion, we are ready to start the new championship.”

Toro open Serie A 2021-22 against Atalanta at the Grande Torino on August 21, before travelling to Fiorentina in the second round seven days later.
