The midfielder had been ready to sign for Fiorentina when the move suddenly collapsed at the last moment, but will now join Lazio for €9m plus bonuses.

“I am very happy with my transfer to Lazio,” the 20-year-old said to Belgian reporters.

“The club spent a lot of money on me, perhaps too much. I wasn’t even considered to be worth that much when I won the Under-20 World Cup with Serbia.

“Today I went to the Chinese embassy to get a visa, on Monday I will be in Rome for a medical and to sign the contract, then I’ll leave for Shanghai.”

Lazio are already in China ahead of the Italian Super Cup clash with Juventus next Saturday.

If all goes well, Milinkovic-Savic could make his Aquile debut in that game.
