Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik defended his performance and last-gasp chance against Liverpool, hitting out at “armchair critics.”

The substitute had a massive opportunity to score the equaliser in stoppages, but was denied by Alisson Becker from point-blank range.

“These are situations where you don’t have time to think, you have to decide straight away and I hit it instinctively,” Milik told Polsat Sport.

The substitute had a massive opportunity to score the equaliser in stoppages, but was denied by Alisson Becker from point-blank range.

“These are situations where you don’t have time to think, you have to decide straight away and I hit it instinctively,” Milik told Polsat Sport.

“I felt that there was someone behind me and I feared being tackled. Alisson did well to narrow the angle. You can call it a mistake, it depends on whether you’re on the pitch or using the judgement of an armchair critic.”

A draw would’ve allowed Napoli to reach the Round of 16, but despite losing only one game in the Champions League group, they were eliminated by a Liverpool side that lost three.

“We have to look forward, as there is still much to play for in Serie A and the Europa League. Napoli are a strong side and obviously there is competition for my role, but I feel in good shape and try to give my best.”
