Milan’s three-man shortlist to add quality in midfield

Milan are on the lookout for a new attacking midfielder and are reportedly following three players who could move to San Siro next summer.

Brahim Diaz’s inconsistent performances have convinced Paolo Maldini to keep an eye on the market, looking for a quality alternative for the Spaniard. Diaz had a solid start to the season with four goals and two assists in the opening nine games of 2021-22.

However, his performances have dropped after catching COVID in October, with the 22-year-old managing just two assists in the following 19 matches across all competitions. He has also fallen in the pecking order with Stefano Pioli using Rade Krunic or Franck Kessié as attacking midfielders.

Brahim is on loan at Milan until June 2023. The Rossoneri have an option to make his move permanent for €22m and Real Madrid can re-sign him by activating a €27m clause.

As per Calciomercato.com, Milan have identified three main targets which could potentially replace Brahim in 2022-23. One of them is Club Burges’ Noa Lang, who would cost around €25m. Serie A offers alternative options: Atalanta‘s Ruslan Malinovskyi and Empoli‘s Nedim Bajrami. The latter is one of the surprises of the season in Italy, thanks to his six goals and five assists in 26 league matches.

Milan have already signed Yacine Adli from Bordeaux. The 21-year-old will move to the Stadio Meazza in the summer after the end of his loan spell in France. He has one goal and seven assists in 27 Ligue 1 appearances this term.

Pioli’s men are the Serie A leaders after a 1-0 win over Napoli at the Stadio Maradona on Sunday. They have a two-point lead over their city rivals Inter who have a game in hand.
