Milan attacking midfielder Daniel Maldini is a summer target for Hellas Verona and Spezia, according to reports in Italy.

The 20-year-old has immense pressure on his shoulder at the Rossoneri as his legendary father Paolo and grandfather Cesare made a combined total of 1,312 appearances for the club.

Daniel made eight appearances for the Milan side which won the 2021-22 Scudetto, scoring one goal but has failed to nail down a regular starting place.

And Calciomercato.com report Verona have enquired about his services and Daniel’s father would consider it an interesting destination.

The report adds newly promoted Cremonese were in the running but have dropped out, with Spezia – against whom Daniel scored his first Milan goal – rivalling Verona.

Daniel made his debut in 2020 and has so far made 24 appearances in all competitions.

His grandfather Cesare, who played 412 times for the club, won four league titles and a European Cup. He later led Milan to Cup Winners’ Cup and Coppa Italia glory as manager.

Paolo played 902 times and won seven Serie A titles, a Coppa Italia, the European Cup/Champions League on five occasions, the Supercoppa five times, the UEFA Super Cup four times, the Intercontinental Cup twice and FIFA Club World Cup.

  1. We all know the kid is under pressure at Milan but then you see his father and grandfathers appearances and trophies won and wonder how he gets through it at all.

  2. It’s good to get some experience but I worry he will go down the same path as his older brother. He needs to want it more. Paolo wanted to earn it and do his family proud, which he did with distinction, but Daniel looks to be more relaxed which leads me to believe he’s in the Milan squad because of nepotism not because he’s a quality prospect for the future or because he wants to succeed more than any other young Italian player around him.

  3. He’s very talented and can make it at Milan, but whether going out for a season to gain experience is the best choice for him right now or not is something we should trust Paolo to decide.

And DAMN RIGHT there is nepotism involved. They’ve earned it, and I, as a fan, would want to make sure the bloodline continues even if there’s the slightest chance he’ll make it. Look at all the horrible players who came and went in these years. You mean to tell me a “Maldini” who is our own youth product doesn’t deserve every possible chance to be given to him?

That family deserve that and then some.

  4. The site looks better but it’s painfully slow and the comments not posting issue has not been resolved. Just FYI!
