Milan will reportedly present three arguments to the Court of Arbitration for Sport as they seek to have their European ban overturned.

The Rossoneri have been excluded from the Europa League for Financial Fair Play breaches, but have appealed to CAS.

According to this morning’s Gazzetta dello Sport, there are three key points on which the appeal will be based.

The first will be to point out that the debts were run up under Silvio Berlusconi’s regime, meaning it’s unfair that the current management should be punished.

The first will be to point out that the debts were run up under Silvio Berlusconi’s regime, meaning it’s unfair that the current management should be punished.

They will also point to other cases in which breaches led to the granting of a settlement agreement.

One reason for the exclusion was that UEFA have doubts over owner Yonghong Li.

Milan will point out that they modified business plans throughout the season out of necessity, not because their owner cannot provide funding.

They had hoped to be able to present a new investor, but talks with Rocco Commisso have stalled so at the moment that seems unlikely.

One possible outcome is that the sentence could be suspended for a year, allowing Milan time to get their books in order.

That would carry its own risks though, as they could then miss out on the Champions League if they qualify this season, which would represent a far bigger hit to revenue than missing the Europa League.
