Milan worse off than last season, but not by much

While Milan are now eight points adrift of leaders Napoli, they are ultimately only two points shy of the tally they had at this stage in Serie A last season.

The Rossoneri were held to a 0-0 draw by Cremonese at the Stadio Giovanni Zini this evening, which left them on 30 points after 14 rounds.

Comparing the current total to their progress at this stage last season on the road towards the Scudetto, Milan are only two points worse off, as they had 32 at the time.

However, while back in 2021-22 they were only three points off leaders Napoli, the gap is now eight points.

There is another significant difference too, as while Milan crashed out of Europe completely by finishing bottom of their Champions League group and therefore had a much freer schedule from January onwards, that won’t be the case this time around.

Milan, Inter and Napoli have all made it to the Champions League Round of 16, to be played in February and March.

The biggest shift for the Diavolo has been outside San Siro, where they managed only three wins, three draws and one defeat.

Throughout all of the 2021-22 campaign, Milan only failed to win five away fixtures, namely four draws and one loss.
