While Milan are now eight points adrift of leaders Napoli, they are ultimately only two points shy of the tally they had at this stage in Serie A last season.

The Rossoneri were held to a 0-0 draw by Cremonese at the Stadio Giovanni Zini this evening, which left them on 30 points after 14 rounds.

Comparing the current total to their progress at this stage last season on the road towards the Scudetto, Milan are only two points worse off, as they had 32 at the time.

However, while back in 2021-22 they were only three points off leaders Napoli, the gap is now eight points.

There is another significant difference too, as while Milan crashed out of Europe completely by finishing bottom of their Champions League group and therefore had a much freer schedule from January onwards, that won’t be the case this time around.

Milan, Inter and Napoli have all made it to the Champions League Round of 16, to be played in February and March.

The biggest shift for the Diavolo has been outside San Siro, where they managed only three wins, three draws and one defeat.

Throughout all of the 2021-22 campaign, Milan only failed to win five away fixtures, namely four draws and one loss.

6 thought on “Milan worse off than last season, but not by much”
  1. I thought Chelsea away was the lowest point. But we then went and outdid ourselves in Torino. And then incredibly, we outdid ourselves again. It isn’t the points that’s the issue. It is the performances. Never ever ever been at the required level of intensity all season. The game management has also been horrific. The only hope tonight was that cremonese didn’t want to attack.

  2. Milan simply put all their eggs in the Champions League basket. It’s unforgivable to win the last two CL matches 4-0 and then lose 5 points against Torino and Cremonese, while it could’ve easily been 7 points lost in three matches, considering the last minute goal against Spezia. Too many players out and too much rotation.

  3. It is as Milan Fan said, it seems that we prioritize to qualify for the knockout phase of CL first, and paid the price in Serie-A, which was a shame as I thought we could easily gather 9 points from Torino, Spezia and Cremonese. The lengthy break would now be welcomed to halt this sliding form. Hopefully we’ll get back stronger in the second half of the season.

Having said that, would I rather trail Napoli by 3 points and out of CL or trail by 8 points and into the round 16? I would choose the latter any given Sunday.

    Forza Milan!
