The initial reports are coming in from France, where Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan suffered a relapse of the calf injury that kept him out for much of the season.

The shot-stopper was all set to start this evening against Gibraltar, but skipped training over the last couple of days.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Maignan felt pain in the right calf muscle, which is the same one that forced him to miss the 2022 World Cup and circa five months of the campaign.

The initial tests have not shown any damage, but there will be another test to be sure.

Another EURO 2024 qualifier is set for next week against Greece and it is possible Maignan will be sent back home early rather than risk further problems.

It was while playing for France that the goalkeeper suffered the calf injury in the first place in 2022.

The fact it flared up again after a return to international duty could cause Milan to question the approach that the France squad has to training.
