Milan are set to sign Victor Boniface from Bayer Leverkusen, but Gazzetta dello Sport warns that the Nigerian forward is a ‘risky’ pick because of his injury history.

Milan are set to drop Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund and sign Boniface instead.

The Rossoneri are expected to finalise an initial loan deal with an option to buy for €32m, but their latest move doesn’t seem to convince part of the Italian media.

An article from Gazzetta dello Sport highlights that Boniface has been struggling with injuries in recent years. Back at Bodo/Glimt, his first professional club in Europe, Boniface suffered two serious cruciate ligament injuries, first in March 2019 and then in November 2020.

His fitness issues continued at Bayer Leverkusen, mainly from January 2024, when he was forced out of action for three months due to an adductor injury. A few months later, in November of the same year, he missed 12 matches because of a thigh problem.

When fit, however, Boniface has proved to be a lethal and prolific goalscorer. In his first season at Bayer Leverkusen, he netted 21 goals in 34 matches and overall, the 24-year-old has netted 32 times in 61 games across all competitions with the Bundesliga side.

Whether his spell at Milan will be successful depends mostly on luck and fitness, Gazzetta concluded.
