Technical director Leonardo is waiting though, as Sarri wants a replacement in January and owner Roman Abramovich may intervene personally to try and change the player’s mind about leaving.

There is also the issue of Tiemoué Bakayoko, who is on loan at Milan with a €40m option to buy.

The Diavolo are willing to pay around €8m for Fabregas in January, but that’s below Chelsea’s asking price of €12m.

The Premier League side may offer a discount, but they would first demand clarity on Bakayoko’s future, as it’s far from certain the Rossoneri will sign him outright.
