Milan vs. Lazio: Why Sarri clashed with Saelemaekers

Maurizio Sarri clashed with Alexis Saelemaekers after Milan vs. Lazio, but what caused the final whistle row?

Sarri ran towards the Milan winger after the final whistle. A Lazio staff member separated the coach and the player before referee Daniele Chiffi showed Sarri a red card.

“It was nothing in particular,” the former Napoli, Chelsea and Juventus tactician told DAZN.

“The young lad made a gesture that you shouldn’t do to older people and Ibrahimovic then calmed everything down. These things happen on the pitch.”

According to DAZN, Sarri demanded more respect from the 22-year-old, who apparently exaggerated his celebration.

The Rossoneri sealed a 2-0 win with goals courtesy of Rafael Leao and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who returned to action after an injury.

Milan have collected nine points from their opening three Serie A games of the season, while Lazio have six points following wins against Empoli and Venezia and today’s defeat against Milan.

Lazio face Galatasaray away in their opening Europa League match on Thursday. They host Cagliari at the Stadio Olimpico next Sunday.
