The home side look set to welcome back some players from long term injuries on Sunday and these Milan vs. Atalanta predictions suggest that they could be important in claiming the points at the San Siro.

Milan vs. Atalanta odds

1 – Milan to win – 23/20

2 – Under 2.5 goals scored – 10/11

3 – Both teams not to score – 11/10

4 – Olivier Giroud to score at any time – 15/8

5 – Milan to win 1-0 – 15/2

Milan’s troubles seem to be behind them now, as Stefano Pioli’s tactical switch to three at the back has made the Rossoneri difficult to beat. That has made the team less dramatic going forward but the Milan coach will take the points rather than the plaudits.

It was another narrow 1-0 win away at Monza last weekend and it would be no surprise if that scoreline was repeated at the San Siro on Sunday. This is not the free-scoring Atalanta of a few seasons ago, after all.

The Rossoneri could be a little fatigued from Champions League exploits in the week, so that could hasten the return of a number of players from injury for this one. Keeper Mike Maignan and Ismaël Bennacer could both be important in claiming the points for Milan.

Atalanta may not be scoring quite as many goals as they used to but Gian Piero Gasperini must be pleased that Rasmus Højlund is doing so well. He scored in the defeat at Lecce last week and will trouble the Milan defence here.

But that loss was a perfect example of how difficult Atalanta have found being consistent this year. After the defeat to Sassuolo, La Dea managed a good win away at Lazio, just to lose to a conservative Lecce side. Another defeat here would see the Bergamo side fall further away from the top four.

There is still something of a points cushion between Atalanta and any other side chasing the European places – thanks mainly to Juve’s deduction – but Gasperini’s side need to put a good run together soon if they are to really challenge for Champions League qualification.

Milan team news

Stefano Pioli will be delighted if he is able to bring Mike Maignan back to the starting line-up here. The French ‘keeper will add even more stability to a defensive unit that has looked much better in recent weeks. Ismaël Bennacer may also return but Zlatan Ibrahimović may have to make do with an appearance from the bench.

Atalanta team news

Gian Piero Gasperini was not happy with the way his side played against Lecce last week but is a little restricted in making many changes to his starting line-up. He could bring in Luis Muriel for Jérémie Boga up front. But he will definitely need to replace the suspended Merih Demiral at the back, with José Luis Palomino deputising.
