Milan ultras have called everyone to flock to the training ground so they can cheer on the squad ahead of the Champions League semi-final with Inter, assuring their confrontation today was not threatening.

There were surprising scenes after the final whistle of the 2-0 defeat to Spezia, as the entire team including coach Stefano Pioli went over to the away fans at the Stadio Picco.

They stood in silence while the ultras leaders spoke and it was not clear if they felt threatened, cowed or encouraged by the experience.

The Curva Sud moved to clarify by releasing a statement calling for all fans to gather at the Milanello training ground at midday tomorrow.

“A year ago we huddled around our lads to celebrate an extraordinary achievement. What awaits us on Tuesday is an even more complicated test. Now more than ever, let us prove that we are Milan people.”

Milan won the Scudetto last season, but are now on the verge of missing out on Champions League qualification entirely.

The 2-0 defeat to Spezia sees them drop further behind the top four, although there is still some hope if Juventus are docked points over the capital gains scandal.

The 15-point penalty was considered too harsh on appeal, but they are expected to have nine taken off when the court reconvenes on May 22.
