Milan ultras in the Curva Sud dedicated their Derby della Madonnina choreography to first responders, medical staff and those who didn’t make it during the COVID pandemic. ‘Milan does not forget.’
Lombardy was the region where the Coronavirus first hit European soil in February 2020 and went on to be the region by far hardest hit in Italy in terms of cases and deaths.
This is why the first Milan Derby with fans back in the crowds of the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza was the right time to send a special message.
A banner went up before the choreography, a dedication from the Curva Sud.
“To those who fought, to those who didn’t make it,
“To those who battled on the front lines to save the nation:
“We honour all of these people, dedicating the most important choreography of the season…”
This was the precursor, for the genuine choreography that took up the entire curva.
“Milan does not forget. Thank you.”
It then continued, with a huge image of front-line health workers in masks and visors, holding an Italian flag with a mourning symbol in the centre.
La coreografia più importante della stagione dedicata alle vittime del Covid, al personale sanitario, al Paese che riparte. Questa è una grandissima cosa. #Derby #MilanInter pic.twitter.com/gRQSTAymsK

Best fans in the world bar none Forza Milan
from an Inter supporter: congrats, every1 united against the inefficient and corrupt system that allowed such a pandemic to thrive. Respect for the fighters and rest in peace for the lost ones.
