Milan managed to pull off a deal for Luka Jovic in the final hours of the summer transfer window, but before the Serbian striker they tried and failed to sign Lille’s Jonathan David.

The Rossoneri spent a large part of the summer looking to sign a new striker to complement Olivier Giroud up front and recently focused their efforts on Porto’s Mehdi Taremi, almost securing a deal before things collapsed in the final stages.

In the end, Milan picked up Jovic from Fiorentina on a free transfer, handing him a one-year contract, and sent Divock Origi to Nottingham Forest on loan.

Page seven of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport details how Milan moved forward for David on Thursday evening, hoping to sign him on loan from Lille, but were unable to agree a deal.

The Rossoneri are still fans of the 23-year-old Canadian striker and could return for him next summer, if not in the January transfer window.
