According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Paolo Maldini and Ivan Gazidis have different views on Sven Botman’s move to the Stadio Meazza.

The Rossoneri have reached a verbal agreement with the Dutch defender and are ready to offer €30m to Lille to secure his signature. Newcastle and Manchester United are also strongly interested in the 22-year-old, who is reportedly pushing to wear the Rossoneri shirt.

Reports in Italy and the UK suggest that the Premier League clubs can outbid the Rossoneri, but Corsport adds that there is one more problem concerning Botman’s potential move to the Stadio Meazza.

Maldini and Gazidis seem to have different views on the matter, with the ex-Arenal chiefs unconvinced about investing €30m in a new centre-back following Pierre Kalulu’s excellent performances in the second part of the campaign. As per Il Corriere della Sera, Milan could sign a cheaper centre-back to invest more money in an attacking midfielder such as Charles De Ketelaere.

On the other hand, Maldini considers Botman a priority to bolster Stefano Pioli’s options in defence and is pushing to finalise the deal.

The contract of the former defender runs out on June 30, but Milan President Paolo Scaroni said on Monday that he is confident Maldini and Ricky Massara will eventually commit their futures to the club.

  1. There is nothing wrong having Botman in the team to support kalulu…besides the team could morph into several shapes depending on the nature of the opponent…so investing 30m on Botman is a good deal however the attack should be the priority as we have seen in Europe strong attack makes a team appealing e.g Liverpool, mancity, Real Madrid etc. The priority should be the attack.

  2. What the *** does Gazidis know about the sporting side of the game? Why should he be concerned what position the budget is spent on? Is he the sporting director now or is that Maldini’s job?

  3. The campaign is going to be a long affair due to being in CL and the WC in the middle. We need more depth in the squad

  4. Well, If Gazidis thinks that priorizing a low cost signing in defense is a way to get CDK, sorry, guys, but he’s absolutely RIGHT.

  5. Maldini is my hero BUT I have to agree we should be spending more on a right sided forward than a CB. Forwards obviously cost more and it’ll be easier to find a low costing CB who’ll provide cover for Kalulu than it’d be to find a low costing right sided forward.
