President Silvio Berlusconi reveals Milan “had been tracking Alessio Cerci for three years.”

The new signing was present after his first training session, arriving on an 18-month loan from Atletico Madrid in exchange for Fernando Torres.

“We have a new arrival that really pleased me, because we had been tracking Cerci for three years,” Berlusconi declared.

“Finally he arrived and already promised me he’ll shave off his beard ahead of the next game.

“I believe we absolutely have the chance to impose ourselves as the best Italian team of 2015. We must take every game as if it’s the most important and underestimate nobody, starting from Sassuolo on Tuesday.

“We must always step out there with the intention of dominating the game, dominating possession and scoring a ton of goals. We have the possibility with this squad and especially our forwards.

“I also complimented El Shaarawy on the phone for his brace against Real Madrid. It was a wonderful performance that should give us a real confidence boost.

“I have always told you that I wouldn’t change this squad with any other in Italy. That includes Roma and Juventus. I’m sure we have what it takes to do well and get back to where Milan belong, in other words in the Champions League.

“Of course third place is our target, but so is Coppa Italia victory, as we have the strength in depth to do it.”
