Stefano Pioli and Milan are said to be in the market for a new centre-forward and could turn to young Montpellier striker Elye Wahi, who has impressed in France since making his debut as a 17-year-old in 2020.

According to reports from Calciomercato, Milan have a meeting with the player’s entourage scheduled in the coming days to better understand whether a potential move could be on the cards.

Wahi is contracted to Montpellier until the summer of 2025 and is estimated to be valued in the region of €25-30m, but also has strong interest from other clubs in Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga.

At 20 years of age, Wahi has netted 26 goals in 79 Ligue 1 appearances and has been in particularly impressive form over the course of this season, registering 13 goals and five assists in a 12th-placed Montpellier side.

Wahi has as many goals domestically this season as Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar and Marseille’s Alexis Sanchez.

The last two months of the season have gone extremely well for Wahi, with five goals and three assists spread over eight games in that period.

With Zlatan Ibrahimovic reaching the end of his playing days and Divock Origi failing to impress since his arrival at San Siro last summer, Milan are in need of a striker to support Olivier Giroud, another player with a decent return for Montpellier in the early stages of his career.
