According to Sky Sport Italia, Milan defender Simon Kjaer will start his first game in more than eight months against Sassuolo tomorrow.

The Rossoneri return to the Mapei Stadium three months after their Serie A victory in May. Stefano Pioli will rotate his squad ahead of Saturday’s derby della Madonnina and next week’s Champions League debut against RB Salzburg.

Therefore, according to Sky Sport Italia, Kjaer will start in central defence, more than eight months after an anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered on December 1, 2021, against Genoa.

The Denmark captain won’t play the whole game so Matteo Gabbia is expected to replace him at some point in the second half.

The Rossoneri have travelled to Reggio Emilia without the injured Ante Rebic and Divock Origi, so Olivier Giroud and Rafael Leao will get the nod at the Mapei Stadium tomorrow. Rade Krunic and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are also on the treatment table.

Tommaso Pobega could start in the middle of the park with Sandro Tonali. Alessandro Florenzi may feature in the starting XI at right-back.
