Milan are targeting a ‘low cost Scudetto,’ writes La Gazzetta dello Sport, as the Rossoneri spend €175m for players and staff, compared to Inter‘s €260m.

Only two points divide the Milanese sides in the Serie A table with three games remaining. The Rossoneri can win their first Scudetto in 11 years, while the Nerazzurri could win their second title in a row after last season’s triumph under Antonio Conte.

La Gazzetta dello Sport analysed the club’s finances, highlighting how the Rossoneri have been able to compete for the title despite spending way less than their direct rivals, including Juventus and Napoli.

Milan’s estimated wage bill for 2021-22, considering players and staff and excluding add-ons, is circa €175m, while Inter spend €260m. The Nerazzurri are the second-highest spenders in Serie A after Juventus (€370m), just ahead of Napoli (€215m).

Milan’s expenses have remained in line with 2020-21, while Inter significantly cut costs last summer by terminating Antonio Conte’s lucrative contract and by selling Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku for a combined €183m fee.

Despite that, Inter still have a more valuable team than Milan. Nerazzurri players are worth €340m compared to Milan’s €240m (the tally doesn’t include the players out on loan). Suning has also invested more than Elliott since taking over the Nerazzurri in 2016. They have spent circa €270m to strengthen the team, while the American fund, which is in talks to sell Milan to Investcorp, has invested around €180m since 2018.

  1. Well this Milan side is also the worst team, player for player, to win a scudetto in over 50 years no doubt.

So its not surprising that their salary budget is quite low.

  2. This goes to show what a good management can achieve. In the world of football which is predominant with players having inflated price tag and agents demanding excessive salaries and commissions, if Milan wins the title after losing out on important players then it sends a statement to the world.

  3. @ Azzkikr

Your reasoning is bizarre. The fact that we have 17 player to score for our teams says a lot or the symbiosis of the current team. Not to mention we have goalie who kept 17(!) clean sheets. Look up your stats before you hate. This team of Milan might not be a team of stars but they are hungry and up and coming better believe that

  4. No mention that Inter sold 2 top players for 185million last summer and only bought players for a fraction of that? Or Milan losing 3 starters for 0 euros? Donnarumma, Hakan and Kessie

  5. @ Flavio Amado

There there, you will soon have lukaku back at the same price you bought him for.. or wait, that’s not gonna work out for you guys 😂

  6. Ahmed stop disgracing the real Interista’s here with your hate. All I see is you slagging off other teams with no perspective and understanding of the game itself.

  7. It really says something about how farcical the media landscape is when a team that is in fact top of the table is not considered to be good enough to be top of the actual table. These players aren’t overachieving – they’re just achieving. That is what sport is all about: taking a player with natural talents and getting them to achieve their potential. The gap between Leonel Messi and that non-league player who runs circles around team mates, is the former reached his potential. That is all the different layers of footballers – the thousands of different levels from Messi to the non-league players.

  8. @Inter365 thank god finally someone said it. This Ahmed fella is always ranting and lives on this forum all day long. The bum should really get a job and stop typing from his mum’s basement. A keyboard warrior probably in his onsie thinking he is some sort of football expert.

  9. Man you can almost taste the salt from other fans. This Milan team deserve it for the hard work they put in. Don’t forget that we should have won this already hadn’t it been for crap referees.
