After weeks of speculation around a Milan move, it now seems as if Josip Ilicic will remain with Atalanta instead.

Coach Gian Piero Gasperini had confirmed in a press conference that Ilicic asked to leave the club over the summer and they were happy to give him his wish if the right offer came along.

However, that seemingly has not happened, with Milan reportedly proposing half the €6-7m asking price and wanting him initially on loan.

According to Sky Sport Italia, there was a meeting this morning between Ilicic and Gasperini in which they resolved some of the tension that had accumulated last season.

His contract runs to June 2022, although there is also an option to extend until 2023, and he has been at the club since leaving Fiorentina in 2017.

The Slovenia international is now content to remain in Bergamo, so Milan turn to Girondins de Bordeaux midfielder Yacine Adli instead.

His price-tag is closer to €12m, but Adli is 21 compared to Ilicic’s 33.
