Rafael Leao Uribe

According to Sky Sport Italia, Rafael Leao is not fully fit and could start on the bench against Atletico Madrid tomorrow.

The Portuguese winger has started Milan’s last 17 games. He trained with the rest of the team this morning but warmed up separately from the rest of the group.

Sky Sport Italia reports Leao was really tired and had cramps after the match in Florence against Fiorentina on Saturday.

Stefano Pioli must cope without Ante Rebic who could remain out of action for a month, so the coach would be short of options on the left if Leao doesn’t start tomorrow.

Pioli: ‘Milan’s last chance against Atletico Madrid’

According to the report, Olivier Giroud will start in the Milan attack at the Wanda Metropolitano with Zlatan Ibrahimovic on the bench.

Alessio Romagnoli and Simon Kjaer will get the nod in centre defence as Fikayo Tomori is not travelling with the team and could return against Sassuolo on Sunday.

The former Chelsea defender is dealing with a slight hip injury.

  1. At this point, it’s better to exit the tournament this year since we can’t seem to keep our squad fit which isn’t helping us domestically. So, drop CL, recoup injured players and focus on the league. Maybe we’ll get luckier with the CL draw next season. Baptism by fire for this young Milan this year in CL.

  2. Leao is too important for Milan this season and we need him in this game, but we should just save him for the Sassuolo match. Poor guy is battered and he’s gonna get injured for a long time if he keeps on playing with tired muscles. His playing style consists of many quick starts and a lot of running. He needs to be fresh to make an impact.

That being said, I hope whoever plays tomorrow, they give their all. We have to keep trying until there’s no chance at all. Atalanta managed to go through under similar circumstances a few years ago albeit in an easier group.

  3. Just forfeit the game, take the 3-0 loss. Better that than the inevitable 4 injuries that come from it.

  4. How do we want to Compete anywhere with this injury record?? HOW? Sack the whole Milanlab and install new ones…they simply cannot help to stay the players fit
