Milan’s focus for the January transfer window is to pick up a new goalkeeper but they’ve faced a number of issues, leaving them in a tough spot.

The Rossoneri were overjoyed with Mike Maignan last season, when the Frenchman played a key role in their Scudetto charge straight after his arrival from Ligue 1. He was keen to pick up from where he left off in his second year but injuries have derailed his campaign and he isn’t expected to be fit until late February.

As reported by Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com, the injuries to Maignan have pushed Milan to search for a reliable backup in the transfer market, but things have not proven easy.

Yesterday, the Rossoneri explored a loan move for Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Sergio Rico but were turned away by the French giants.

Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara also contacted Atalanta to discuss the possibility of picking up Marco Sportiello six months early, but their €5m price tag has blocked talks.

Milan now need to turn their attention elsewhere and find a reliable backup quickly, with only three weeks left in the transfer window.

  1. Vicario would offer a solution for now and the future. No more waiting around for maignan who spends half a season on holiday.
