Milan are reportedly offering a new contract to Rafael Leao worth €6m per season plus bonuses, hoping to stave off interest from Chelsea and Manchester City.

The 23-year-old talent is only under contract until June 2024, so the Rossoneri are rushing to avoid a similar situation to the one that saw them lose Gianluigi Donnarumma, Hakan Calhanoglu, Franck Kessie and Alessio Romagnoli as free agents.

They had been close to a deal with his agent at €4m before the strong performances that allowed Milan to win the Serie A title last season.

With interest from top European clubs including Chelsea and Manchester City, that drove up the asking price for his salary to €7m per season net.

According to Tuttosport and Tuttomercatoweb, the latest proposal prepared by Milan directors is worth €6m per season plus add-ons that would reach the €7m mark.

He was purchased in 2019 for €29.5m from French club Lille and has now contributed 30 goals and 27 assists in 123 competitive games for the Rossoneri.

  1. Give him 6 and add a load of bonuses for when he actually delivers. Might help his consistency and decision making.

  2. 2m (1M net of tax to Leo) per year over a 5 year contract is 10m extra for ACM. Is it really worth losing a 120M player on a free transfer for not paying up 10m? Seems like bad business to haggle.

Gigio’s situation was different as management made a bet on Mignon at a fraction of the cost. Çalhanoğlu & Romagnoli were overrated.

  3. I have no qualms with Leao leaving from 120. Mendes is getting too greedy. Either that, or renew and offload him in 2-3years for 150iml+. Good Business.
