Rafael Leao continued showing positive signs at Milanello as he works to be fit for Milan’s fast-approaching clash with Atalanta.

The 24-year-old Portuguese forward has missed the Rossoneri’s last three games against Borussia Dortmund, Fiorentina and Frosinone after suffering a hamstring injury in the 10th minute of the 2-2 draw with Lecce on November 11.

Tests on Tuesday confirmed that the lesion in his left thigh has fully healed, and Leao wasted no time, immediately carrying out some training work on the pitch, keen to return to action as soon as possible.

Gianluca Di Marzio and Manuele Baiocchini reported that Leao continued his personalised training programme on the pitch at Milanello today, hoping to return to squad training on Thursday. He is aiming to be fit for the away clash with Atalanta on December 9.

Whilst the Portuguese star is unlikely to start against Gian Piero Gasperini’s side, he could come off the bench to allow him to get some minutes in his legs ahead of the decisive Champions League clash with Newcastle United on December 13.

In the meantime, Marco Sportiello also started individual training work on the pitch but isn’t expected to return for another week or so. Simon Kjaer will not join the squad for the trip to Bergamo, despite his issue initially being described as simple fatigue.
